A STREET artist from Norway has left his mark on Bunbury and the South West with a series of colourful pieces which have unexpectedly landed in a range of locations.
Shoppers at Harvey Norman on Sandridge Road noticed a piece of street art featuring a dog wearing bunny ears and a little girl earlier this month, painted on an electrical switchboard near the store.
One knowledgeable shopper pointed out that the work belonged to AFK, a street artist from Bergen, Norway who keeps his identity hidden but is well-known for the bold satire in his work.
The Bunbury Mail contacted AFK and he confirmed that he had been on holiday in WA with his family and had toured through the South West.
He left street art in Perth, Albany, Denmark, Margaret River, Bunbury and Gelorup.
“We really enjoyed visiting and I hope to get back again - and do a little more decorating,” he said.
The Scandinavian Traveller website reported that AFK stands for Away From Keyboard and he remained anonymous to avoid legal problems.
His murals are often linked to how “people are plundering nature at the expense of animals” and also feature references to the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which made international headlines when Islamic terrorists opened fire on its staff in January this year.
Bunbury has made a name for itself in the street art world in recent years thanks to the arrival of annual festival Re.Discover, where WA artists take to building walls to transform them into pieces of art.
