BUNBURY based firm Perkins Builders has won the contract to build stage two of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre after approval on Tuesday night from the City of Mandurah council.
The redevelopment of the centre has so far included an upgrade of existing facilities along with a new outdoor 50m pool complete with undercover spectator seating, and new change rooms and club facilities.
The second stage will include two multi-purpose sports courts, new and renovated gym and fitness facilities, three new squash courts and a crèche.
Deputy Mayor Darren Lee welcomed the selection of Perkins Builders.
“We’re excited to have taken the next step in selecting a preferred builder for the Dry Centre stage, as it means we can progress this really important redevelopment for our community,” he said.
“The extensive redevelopment and refurbishments at the entire centre will provide a modern integrated sporting, aquatic and recreational facility that will meet the needs of Mandurah’s growing community and the wider region.”
Perkins Builders, who also won the contract for stage one of the redevelopment, beat two Perth firms for the contract.
The City has budgeted $15 million for the completion of stage two, which is in addition to the $21 million allocated for stage one.
Work on stage two of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre redevelopment is scheduled to begin in January 2016.
