WITH an estimated 50 per cent of the population affected by insomnia and other sleep disorders such as sleep apnoea and snoring becoming increasing issues, leading discount pharmacy brand Discount Drug Stores is looking to help Australians get a better night’s rest with its first ever sleep health clinics to launch across 115 stores this month.
“Sleep is the key to being healthy, productive, alert, emotionally balanced, physically coordinated and full of energy all day long,” Discount Drug Stores professional services manager Casey Clark said.
“Sleep problems are incredibly common but not everyone is aware of the negative effects of lack of sleep or that there are solutions to their problems.
“To function best, an adult requires seven to nine hours of sleep per night because without it, you are more likely to make errors and be moody and irritable.”
The Discount Drug Stores sleep health clinics will run in stores throughout July and will give customers access to a registered nurse to discuss any sleep issues and ensure they are given the appropriate help and advice.
Registered nurses will be able to discuss good sleeping habits and a range of sleep issues with patients at the clinics and will also be able to refer patients on for further treatment or consultations if necessary.
Ms Clark says the campaign will raise awareness of sleep issues in the community.
“Our sleep health clinics will only take 15 minutes however in that time, patients can find out about the importance of good sleeping habits and also be referred to an external sleep expert or their doctor, if required,” she said.
“Most adults have experienced insomnia at some point in their lives and our sleep health clinics are designed to help customers understand the difference between a transient issue and when it can be categorised as something more chronic.”
Customers who attend the sleep health clinics will also receive a Nature’s Own lavender soy candle to help them sleep at night.
Charges apply for the clinics and bookings are essential.
