THE first solo exhibition for Pinjarra artist Gloria Kearing will be launched tomorrow evening at CASM at 6pm.
To Be Complete will run until July 19 and will include a series of workshops and a talk by the artist.
The exhibition aligns with NAIDOC Week celebrations and features 35 new works that aim to communicate cultural stories to both Kearing’s immediate and extended families as well as to the broader communities.
Gloria’s pieces share stories of her traditional Nyungar culture and life including how her family used to live and eat as well as their pathways and her interpretation of dreamtime stories relayed by brothers and older cousins.
“My art tells the stories of my family’s lives. It portrays our lives connected to our boodja (land),” Ms Kearing said.
“Keeping our culture alive is very important to me because I would like to see it living on for generations to come.”
Kearing will be presenting an artist talk on July 2 at 6pm and two painting workshops at CASM during the term of her exhibition.
The children’s painting workshop is on July 4, costing $20 and the adult workshop is on July 11, costing $40.
Each workshop runs from 10am-noon with all materials supplied. Register interest with CASM 9550 3989 or artspaces@mandurah.wa.gov.au
