A GREENFIELDS man who bashed a woman in an assault which left her struggling to breathe was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Paul-Lee Benidict Ugle-Pickett pleaded guilty to the February assault causing bodily harm.
Guilty pleas were also entered to charges of disorderly behaviour, street drinking and failing to provide details to police in relation to an April incident in Mandurah.
The court heard Ugle-Pickett was at his Greenfields home on February 26 when he started arguing with the victim.
He punched the woman eight times, splitting her ear.
The woman then ran outside before Ugle-Pickett chased her and pinned her to the ground.
Neighbours called the police, who attended and arrested the offender.
Ugle-Pickett was arrested again on April 24 on Sholl Street, Mandurah.
Police spotted him drinking from a can of Jim Beam as he walked along the road.
Upon being asked to dispose of the alcohol, Ugle-Pickett became abusive and threw himself on the ground.
He refused to provide his name to officers.
Magistrate Vivien Edwards, who said Ugle-Pickett had been convicted twice before of assaulting the same woman, said she had no alternative to sending him to prison immediately.
The nine-month sentence was backdated to April 25, when Ugle-Pickett was first taken into custody.
For the April 24 matters he was fined $800 plus court costs.
