THE first homes and businesses in Mandurah and Meadow Springs will be permanently disconnecting from their copper telephone lines as part of the compulsory switch to the National Broadband Network on Friday.
Approximately 2000 premises in Mandurah and 1100 in Meadow Springs have reached the copper disconnection deadline.
This means anyone who has not placed an order for an NBN service will have their phone lines disconnected within 10 working days.
A NBN Co spokesperson said owners should have been advised that the deadline was approaching.
“If anyone hasn’t switched they should contact their retail service provider as soon as possible if they want a fixed phone line,” the spokesperson said.
iiNet NBN product manager Rachael McIntyre said more than 110,000 premises Australia-wide had reached the disconnection deadline with Mandurah to be the latest.
“Consumers need to act quickly. While their phone and internet services may not stop working on that date, they will within days, so it really is time for people to upgrade to the NBN,” she said.
“Households or businesses still relying on the old phone network need to choose either to switch across to the NBN or go mobile-only.”
Other areas in Mandurah and the surrounds will be cut off from the copper network from August 18 onwards.
