Valley View Residential Care Home in Collie has welcomed a $600 donation from the Collie branch of the Country Women’s Association.
The donation came from the proceeds of the first of many monthly ‘Soup and Sandwich’ days that the Country Women’s Association Collie branch will be hosting.
Facility Manager of Valley View Residential Care Home Jan Hume is excited to be developing new occupational therapy programs for residents as a result of the donation.
The donation will be used to purchase much needed equipment to broaden the range of occupational therapy activities for residents, as Valley View moves toward improved individual care plans.
The new “Living Longer, Living Better” legislation introduced in July 2014 encourages people to stay at home longer.
As a result, new residents entering the home are generally frailer and require specialist individual care programs.
Ms Hume said that the occupational therapy programs are being developed in response to the higher level of care required for residents.
“This donation has been made to Valley View at a most opportune time. With the need to deliver higher levels of care for each resident, the demand to provide individually tailored occupational therapy programs based on specific needs, has increased.”
“These much needed funds will go towards setting up individual personalised kits pertinent to particular identified past hobbies and activities of our clients,” said Jan.
A spokesperson for Southern Cross Care group said that specific activities are crucial to keeping meeting the resident’s needs.
“Group activities remain an important way of involving the residents’ social and emotional needs, however many are too frail to actively participate.”
“By re-designing personal care plans and focussing on an individual’s specific needs and wants, Valley View is creating a person-centred approach to care for each resident.”
Each month, the local branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) in Collie holds a “Soup and Sandwiches” day. For $10 a person, anyone who is keen can enjoy a tasty lunch prepared by the ladies of CWA.
The funds raised are donated to local charities and organisations.
