FORMER Pinjarra Tiger and Peel Thunder player Harley Bennell is one of three Gold Coast Suns players who will miss this weekend’s game after breaching an alcohol ban.
On Sunday, Bennell, Trent McKenzie and Brandon Matera failed to meet standards outlined by the coaches and endorsed by the players following the side’s victory over the Brisbane Lions.
The players will now play in the reserves, missing the Suns clash with Adelaide on Saturday.
In a release on the Suns website, general manager of football operations Marcus Ashcroft said the trio individually acknowledged to the leadership group and senior coach that they failed to meet the standards outlined.
"The player leadership group advised the coaches on Monday that they had challenged a group of players who had failed to live the standards agreed upon following Saturday's match,” he said.
"It was the shared view of the leadership group, coaches and senior management that the players would be unavailable for senior selection this week.”
Bennell played his best game of the season against the Lions, collecting 31 disposals and kicking two goals and will be sorely missed this weekend.
