MANY exciting adventures await the residents of the Bedingfeld Park Aged Care Facility after they received a new bus for the residents to venture out on.
The bus, named Lizzy, came to the aged care facility thanks to a $125,000 grant from Lotterywest.
Lizzy was named after Bedingfield Park carer Elizabeth Boyle, who put in an application for a grant to Lotterywest in February last year and has followed up with organising to bring it to the home.
Ms Boyle took it in her stride to get the new bus and said the aged care facility needed it because the old one only carried five people whereas the new vehicle carries 21.
Lizzy has also been modified and features wheelchair access for some of the residents.
The bus was ordered from Japan and when arrived in Western Australia it then had to be modified.
Ms Boyle said it was a dream come true to have to bus come to the aged care facility.
“We used to have to rely on volunteer vehicles and now everyone can go on the same bus,” she said. “Pinjarra is a small town and when the bus drives around tooting its horn, it will also good promotion.”
Ms Boyle said it was an honour to have the bus named after her.
“I will be with them every day and go on every journey with them,” she said.
Board member John Smith said the bus was a fantastic acquisition as it gave them more room.
“It gives them convenience and a large number of people can go in it then before,” he said. The Bedingfield Park residents will have their first adventure on Lizzy this Thursday, when they travel to Mandurah to see the War Memorial.
