A MANDURAH man will face court on Tuesday after allegedly assaulting two police officers on the weekend.
The alleged offences happened on Saturday, about 11pm, when police were called to help break up a fight at a Smart Street mall nightclub.
Peel senior sergeant Glen Willers said the man had to be physically restrained inside the nightclub. He is then alleged to have hit a senior constable several times with a closed fist to the back of the head.
After being handcuffed and taken outside, the man is further alleged to have head-butted another officer. Both police officers sustained minor injuries.
The man was arrested and charged with refusing to leave licensed premises, obstructing police, and two counts of assaulting a public officer.
Snr-sgt Willers said high-resolution CCTV footage of the incident had been seized.
“Behaviour like this will not be tolerated,” he said. “We will be pursuing people for assaults like this.
“We’re sick of it; so is the whole community.”
