FOUR goals to Rod Tregenza in the second quarter have given South Mandurah a 51-point win over Baldivis in the first game of the season on Saturday at Falcon Oval.
On the opening day of the Peel Football League (PFL), Baldivis led at quarter-time by a goal; however, South Mandurah came back and kicked nine goals in the second term and built a 48-point lead.
Baldivis then put together a minor comeback in the third term and got the margin back to 18 points.
However, South Mandurah stamped their authority on the game, scoring 40 points to seven in the final quarter.
South Mandurah eventually ended up with a 16.12 (108) to 8.9 (57) win.
Samuel Hart and Mitchell Cochrane also bagged three goals each for South Mandurah while Matthew McMahen kicked two.
Last year’s premiers, Pinjarra, started the season with a loss to last year’s third-placed side Waroona at Sir Ross McLarty Oval.
Pinjarra struggled to put scores on the board and had just nine scoring shots for the whole match, losing 4.5 (29) to 8.6 (54).
Braddon Kazakoff was the only multiple goal kicker for Pinjarra, finishing with two goals, while Mitch Brown and MacKenzie O’Brien chimed in with a goal.
Halls Head started off their campaign with a strong win over Mandurah on Saturday night at Bendigo Bank Stadium.
Halls Head led by three points at quarter-time, but opened up a 32-point advantage in the second term.
Former Peel Thunder leading goal kicker Dean Buszan booted four goals for Halls Head while Jordan Adamson-Holmes finished the game with three majors.
Mandurah had a chance to make up ground in the third term and had more scoring shots, but kicked six straight behinds.
Halls Head then flexed their muscles in the final term and scored 40 points to 15 to eventually run out 59-point winners.
Rockingham recorded an important 75-62 win over Centrals on Saturday at Mundijong Oval.
In the Reserves South Mandurah defeated Baldivis by 24 points, Waroona edged out Pinjarra by five points, Halls Head easily accounted for Mandurah by 71 points and Centrals defeated Rockingham by 37 points.
In the Colts Baldivis got the points against South Mandurah with a 45-point win, Waroona thrashed Pinjarra by 121 points, Halls Head defeated Mandurah by 56 points and Rockingham dominated Centrals to win by 138 points.
This weekend Mandurah play Rockingham, Waroona take on South Mandurah, Baldivis play Pinjarra and Centrals take on Halls Head.
