THE biggest race on Pinjarra Park’s calendar, the Pinjarra Cup, was run and won by Kirov Boy on Sunday.
Riden by Western Australia’a oldest current jockey, 67-year-old Danny Miller, Kirov Boy upstaged the favourites to win for trainer-owner Arthur Mortimer.
Kirov Boy was disappointing in the Bunbury Cup on March 12, finishing 11th from the 12 riders.
The Bunbury Cup winner, Tick Tick Boom entered the Pinjarra Cup as favourite with second-place getter Global Flirt also heavily backed in the Pinjarra race.
However its was Kirov Boy’s day with Tick Tick Boom finishing in fourth behind Global Flirt driven by local jockey Lucy Warwick in third. Ask Me Nicely finished second.
Kirov Boy has now won more than $300,000 in prize money taking her career wins to seven from 30 races.
Myalup 16-year-old Warwick didn’t leave the racecourse empty handed after recording a win on Quintessence in the Mandurah Mail Handicap earlier in the meet.
