ED’S Shed boxers Chas Robinson and Jackson England have both started off the season with wins.
Robinson defeated Eureka boxer Alex Winwood in the 56-kilogram fight.
Despite Winwood being under weight, both fighters agreed to the match as there were no other opponents in the division.
Robinson said it took a while for both he and Winwood to get into the fight.
“We have sparred together and are friends so weren’t sure how to fight each other,” he said.
“After the first round we started going hard against each other and I felt like my fitness was up.
“My reactions stayed fast and he started to slow down a bit,” Robinson said.
Robinson’s coach Eddie Kuznicki said it was a good first up win.
“It was a tentative bout as they are good friends,” he said. “It was not an easy fight, but a good win.”
Kuznicki’s other fighter Jackson England also had a win against Josh Stockwell in he 60kg division.
“It has been a while since Jackson has won, but he had an excellent fight, which was important,” he said.
“He has been working hard on his fitness and that showed in his performance.”
England said it was the best way to start the year.
“It would have been a tough fight to judge,” England said.
“In the end I threw and landed the most punches and got the unanimous decision.
Kuznicki said England still had a lot of work to do but it was an important win.
