LOCAL lovers and couples from all over the world can now show their endless love by attaching a love lock to the new railing at the end of the Mandurah Boardwalk.
The installation was sponsored and paid for by the Boardwalk group which comprises all business owners, managers and stakeholders between the Dome Café and the Sebel
Mandurah on the Mandurah Boardwalk.
The Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mandurah and Peel Tourism Organisation and the City of Mandurah are also members and sponsors of the group.
The Boardwalk group created the love locks for the community, arts, heritage, culture and tourism which will attract visitors to the area creating a number of knock-on effects for business operators and the local community.
Typically, sweethearts, names or initials are inscribed on a love lock to symbolise unbroken love and a commitment of eternity and memory that cannot be unlocked.
There are no less than 73 countries and states that have love locks and the Boardwalk group seized the opportunity to have the installation made locally and capitalise on this phenomenon and tourism asset.
The installation also ties in with the City of Mandurah’s Arts, Heritage & Culture Strategy 2014 – 2020 and will form part of Mandurah’s landscape and a sense of place.
The Boardwalk group hopes the local community and visitors use the love locks as a meeting place and a public artwork.
The attraction was officially opened on Valentine’s Day by the Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industries presaident, Donna Cocking.
Love locks will be able to be purchased from some of the boardwalk businesses.
