A bushfire which threatened lives and property in Waroona on Friday has been contained, but a Watch and Act advice remains in place.
People in the eastern part of Waroona, in an area bounded by Nanga Brook Road, Hill Street, Lyons Road, Weir Road and Woodley Heights have been warned to remain vigilant with a possible threat still current.
Despite the downgrade from earlier emergency footing, residents are still advised to leave or prepare to defend their property.
In a community meeting on Friday afternoon fire authorities explained the steep terrain in hills just east of the townsite made the blaze difficult to fight.
Two helitacs were employed with trucks unable to reach certain parts of the fire.
The fire has burnt more than 25 hectares and was started by reignition of a previous blaze caused by lightning.
A temporary evacuation area has been set up at the Community Resource Centre.
Concern remains the fire could break containment lines and move north-easterly towards Nanga Brook Road which, along with Robbie Court, has been closed to motorists except local residents.
