DAWESVILLE filmmaker Nick Lacey’s film Pursuit of Light has received another accolade after it came second at an international film festival.
The film was awarded second place at the inaugural Mirvac Short Film Festival at the Meadow Springs Open Air Cinema earlier this month.
More than 400 films were entered and whittled down to 12.
The 18-year-old previously won the Dean’s choice award and the best editing award at the 19th annual Bond University Film and Television Awards.
The film is about former professional boxer Riccardo Monteleone and the blood sweat and tears he puts into training for a fight against a muay thai champion.
The film was praised by a panel of judges which included Murdoch University’s chair of screen and production John McMullan, who said there was a high standard of films entered in the festival.
“Pursuit of Light, entered by Nicholas Lacey from Dawesville was the best local entry,” he said.
“The film about one father’s fight to show his son that anything is possible is an intensely dramatic short documentary, with a fast-paced style that grabs you from start to finish, and leaves you inspired.”
Lacey said it was the biggest award his film had won yet and he planned on entering it into more festivals to gain exposure for him and the film.
“To work on something on my own and go up against industry professionals was amazing,” he said.
“To go up against studio professionals with long credit lists was awesome.
“There were so many great films”
