A man was seriously injured early this morning when a train collided with his vehicle that was believed to have been parked on the railway tracks near Waroona.
The locomotive was pulling 36 carriages of alumina when the accident occurred at around 3am between Pinjarra and Bunbury.
The train was heading south towards Bunbury when it hit a Toyota Landcruiser which police believe was parked on the tracks.
A 62-year-old Dawesville man was trapped in the vehicle and needed to be cut free by a fire crew before being airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital by the RAC Rescue helicopter with serious injuries.
The train driver was uninjured but received treatment for shock.
