Teacher nominated for excellence

LOCAL teacher Graeme Dixon has been nominated for the Regional Achievement and Community Curtin University Teaching Excellence Award.

The Halls Head Community College Education Support Centre (ESC) teacher was recognised for his tireless effort in helping special needs secondary students for the past seven years.

ESC principal Deb Fieldwick said Mr Dixon engaged students to participate in volunteer coast care work and planting trees in the local community.

“Graeme has not only improved the attendance and positive participation of many previously disengaged young people, he has also ensured that their hard work, skills and learning are recognised through the education system,” she said.

“Our school wishes to acknowledge Graeme for engaging students with learning difficulties and improving their learning, social and vocational outcomes by involving them in a vast array of community-linked projects in the Mandurah area.”

Category award winners will be announced at a gala presentation dinner at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 16.
