IT’S a place where no question is too silly.
The Mandurah Q&A Facebook page has just celebrated its first anniversary and creator Tanya Kimber said she never thought it would be so popular.
The page, which has more than 6100 members, is for residents to ask questions and other group members give their advice.
“I kept seeing posts on the Mandurah Buy and Sell page complaining about people asking questions not related to selling anything,” Ms Kimber said.
“Dad had the idea to start a new page but we only thought it would get maybe 100 members tops.
“It’s nice to get on there and see people post how the page has helped them out – it’s a good community page.
“We do get a few ‘special’ people who like to post snarky comments but on the whole people are very helpful."
Questions include the best businesses for car services, how to deal with pests, what are good movies or television series to watch and the best ways to cook crayfish.
Ms Kimber said the most popular posts were usually about helicopters flying over Mandurah or people asking about the best beaches or restaurants.
“There are a lot of medical questions – people saying their symptoms and asking whether they should go to the doctor or not," she said.
The page doesn’t allow defamatory posts or comments and Ms Kimber said she keeps a watch list of people who have broken the rules.
“Sometimes you get a feel for what posts are going to cause drama,” she said.
“Those get monitored more closely.”
Both Ms Kimber and her father monitor the page and she was currently receiving about 20 or 30 invitation requests per day.
“One time I was driving back from South Australia and I got to Esperance and had 80 requests to join the group,” she said.
“It takes time because I go through their page and make sure they’re not scammers trying to sell fake Oakley sunglasses or something.”
