SCHEDULED viewings of the controversial Seth Rogen film The Interview will not go ahead in Mandurah after Sony Pictures pulled the movie from release.
Due for release in Australian cinemas on Boxing Day, Reading Cinemas Mandurah, along with movie theatres across the world had been advertising the film for months.
Last week it was announced The Interview had been axed by the filmmakers after hackers threatened cinema-goers with acts of terror and cinemas refused to screen it.
The film, starring Rogen and James Franco, was a comedy about the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Sony Pictures have released they still want to release the film but there is no confirmation as to how as yet.
File-sharing platform BitTorrent, which provides an avenue for consumers to download films and other copyrighted content without paying, has offered to distribute the film legally.
While mainstream video-on-demand services such as Netflix are reportedly refusing to go near the film, BitTorrent Inc told various United States media outlets that its peer-to-peer network was "the very best way for Sony to take back control of their film".
