LAST Monday’s meeting at Pinjarra Paceway, sponsored by Community Building Supplies, featured the running of the $10,000 Discreet Romeo Trotters Sprint.
The race was taken out in great style by Enjoy a Coldie, trained and driven by Nathan Turvey for a host of owners.
The win was the seven-year-old’s second in his past five starts.
Driven midfield for most of the 1684-metre sprint distance, Nathan bought the son of SJ’s Photo home with a powerful finish.
There is no doubt Nathan is pencilled in for the consistent square gaiter for the upcoming Trotters Cup.
There was a large crowd in attendance enjoying the facilities, meals and a cold drink in the pavilion.
The meeting was off to a good start for Aldo Cortapassi.
Now duel licensed Aldo is able to steer Septentrional for trainer Greg Kersley.
Northern Lucks, who has been off the scene since August last year, won a Byford trial a week before heading to Pinjarra and Kersley himself is also dual licensed, enjoying both pacing and racing horses for both codes.
In the Julie and Norman Champion Pace, punters pal Colin Brown and popular trainers, Greg and Skye Bond were again at the place of pace doing what they do on almost a weekly basis, saluting as winners, which was the first in a double success for the day.
Tempest Cullen notched his second win from his past four outings since a let up with Colin in the cart and later on in the program giving Team Bond plenty to cheer about.
Ryan Warwick adding to Team Bond’s momentum with a go to whoa performance on Our Jimmy Johnstone, who was making his Western Australian debut for the Forrestdale trainers.
As the new kids on the block continue to have followers of form sitting up and taking notice, Maddison Brown, brought her recent Kalgoorlie form back to town and was successful for Graeme Waters who trains at Bridgetown.
Maddison was able to steer a course for home in the long straight at Pinjarra with outsider of the field Country Jasper in the John and Gaye Johnstone Westbred Pace.
A talented youngster from the Brown family, Maddison, was at home in the saddle long before taking up the reins in the world of pacing and began a little tentative when first matching strides with her more credentialed competitors.
In recent months Maddison’s strike rate has continued to gather momentum and she will be one to look out for in the city when she finally makes her debut.
Next Monday there will be a visit from Santa included in the day’s festivities and pacing.
Waroona-based Nigel Johns continues to add to his very successful strike rate as a trainer and driver of trotters, but it was his mate Donald Harper who was able to steer home All Flair from the Johns stable last Saturday night at Gloucester Park for owners N and K Boyd, Dylan Egerton-Green.
Brad Groves geared up as last start winner, Rivers Of Babylon at Bunbury last Friday night; just four days after her Pinjarra win, well driven by Michael Grantham.
Michael Brennan returned home to Pinjarra with the winner’s cheque in his pocket after Back On Board saluted with Gary Hall jnr in the spider.
Kim Young also assisting trainer Stephen Reed to take home the chocolates with a driving double for Stephen, saluting with I’m Riddick and Nicnak Paddy Wak.
Mister Ardee saluting at Narrogin in a dead heat finish with Affluent Bell for trainer Gary Elson with Chris Voak in the cart.
Chris is cooling his heels at the moment after a 19 day suspension incurred last Friday night at Gloucester Park but with plenty of time to play golf, his other chosen sport, his golfing fan club eagerly await his tips for the week.
