WITH the holiday season just around the corner, the City of Mandurah is joining forces with the WA Local Government Association (WALGA) to raise awareness about road safety during the festive season.
The Road Ribbon for Road Safety campaign is part of WALGA’s RoadWise program to help create awareness of road safety over the Christmas and New Year period.
The campaign has been developed to enable the whole community to take part in promoting the road safety message to families, friends and colleagues during one of the busiest periods on WA roads.
The Road Ribbon for Road Safety campaign is focused on promoting the Towards Zero vision (WA’s road safety strategy 2008 – 2020).
Mayor Marina Vergone said the City's long term hope is for a holiday season with no fatal traffic crashes and no serious injuries.
“To achieve this it’s important we work together, we all have a role to play,” she said.
“As road users, we all need to take responsibility for behaving safely and obeying the road rules.
“I am urging the community to make sure they do the right thing on the roads, don’t drink and drive, don’t drive tired, wear a seatbelt and don’t speed.”
People can support the campaign by wearing a road ribbon (available free of charge), downloading an e-road ribbon to send to friends and family or by talking about it.
The campaign runs through until January 5.
