Police raided Bunbury Regional Prison on Thursday as visiting hours began.
The Organised Crime Squad prison team and local South-West district police officers searched for drugs, supported by the Department of Corrective Services, and a drug detection dog.
The raid began at the start of visiting hours and continued into the afternoon. Nearly 30 visitor vehicles were stopped and drivers given roadside drug tests.
Initial tests indicated two visitors had ingested illegal drugs. Some cannabis, one meth pipe and a weapon were also found.
A number of drivers were caught driving unlicensed and others given vehicle work orders.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Healy from the Organised Crime Squad said Thursday's raid was part of an ongoing effort to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs into WA prisons.
"Operations like this will continue to be rolled out anywhere, anytime to complement the existing drug detection activities carried out by the Department of Corrective Services within the prison facilities.
"Our message to anyone thinking about attempting to take drugs into a prison is simple – if you are caught with drugs you may go from being a visitor to an inmate. It's not worth the risk".
Anyone with information regarding persons supplying drugs in the community should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
