TWO Mandurah boxers are out to seek revenge at this weekend’s state titles finals at the Scarborough Sportsmen’s Club in Perth.
Eureka Boxing Club fighter Alex Winwood and Ed’s Shed boxer Chas Robinson will get there opportunity to be the best in Western Australia for their weight division.
Winwood is looking for his first major title after he was robbed of an opportunity to win the Golden Gloves last month.
His opponent, Tristan Davis, was three kilograms over weight at the Golden Gloves.
Although Winwood said on the day he would fight if he dropped one-kilogram, Davis would not fight.
Winwood got one back after he defeated him in the semi-finals last weekend. “I was really glad, I have been waiting for this fight for a long time,” he said.
He defeated him in three, three minute rounds and now has sites set on Jessie Dawes in the final.
Winwood has defeated Dawes twice before.
“The Golden Gloves would have been a good title but I was more than happy to win this to fight for WA,” he said.
“From now until Saturday I will start taking it easier so injuries do not pop up.”
Robinson will be looking to get revenge on Julian Jeakings, who defeated him in the Golden Gloves last month.
Robinson defeated Bradley Abraham in the semi-finals, but said he had a lot of work to do before the next fight. “I should have been moving around and used the angles a bit more,” he said.
The Ed’s Shed boxer said he was not happy with his performance in their last fight against Jeakings and was looking for a win.
“I have got a few different ideas on what to do,” he said.
If both boxers win they will be named state champions.
The loser of the fight can then challenge the winner again next year for the title if they choose.
