After years of waiting, Perth's first Krispy Kreme doughnut store finally opened its doors on Wednesday morning.
Hundreds of people queued outside before the 9.30am opening, while a handful of eager fans camped out for several days to get their sugary fix.
Marketing student Favian Lin, from Hillarys, was first in line at the Whitford City store and said he arrived at the site on Sunday evening. He received a "golden ticket" for his trouble, which allows him to claim 12 doughnuts a week for a year.
"My friends got me a stretcher bed and a sleeping bag and we're undercover, so we're basically camping," the 19-year-old said.
"The first night was very cold and I didn't get much sleep. The second night calmed down a bit and the third night was pretty warm."
Lin's friend Ray Gilling, also of Hillarys, was persuaded to join the queue while bringing down supplies. He said he had never tried a Krispy Kreme doughnut before.
"I came down Monday at midday. I was visiting Favian and then another of my friends asked me to wait in line for him and I said OK," he said.
As for the first bite, Mr Gilling said it was "out of this world".
"It just melts. It's just really easy to eat," he said.
Krispy Kreme Australia CEO Andrew McGuigan said the Whitford City site was chosen because it had enough space and because it allowed 24-hour public access.
"We have a dine-in area, a production facility out the back where you can see the doughnuts being made by hand so it's a big operation. We have a lot of hungry people to serve," he said.
"We love having a party, we love having fun, it's who we are."
Health professionals have voiced concerns about Perth's obsession with the sweet treats, with one "original glazed" doughnut containing more than 10 per cent of the average adult's daily energy needs.
"If only we could have the same marketing and appeal for healthy foods," nutritionist Julie Meek told Radio 6PR.
"They're doing something right in their marketing!"
