THE highly-anticipated $100 million Eaton Fair expansion will open its doors on Wednesday with customers expected to flock to the centre to see what all the fuss is about.

The store has been fast-tracked to open before Christmas with Kmart and Coles expected to be ready for shoppers, but stores will continue to open on a weekly basis throughout December.

Citygate principal Geoff Prosser said he was a bit disappointed the expansion would not be totally complete on opening day due to an unexpected short supply of granite pavers for the town square.

But Mr Prosser said more than 650 extra parking bays on the upper deck and travellators were expected to be well received by shoppers.

December will see the upper level residential apartments finished and the town square is expected to be a popular meeting place at Christmas time.

In July, Kmart announced it would open WA’s first 24-hour department store in the Eaton expansion, taking advantage of a loophole in trading laws.

While the centre will officially open today, Citygate has planned to host grand opening celebrations early next year.
