One of the men charged over Monday night’s bungled ram raid at a Meadow Springs Target store told Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday he had no recollection of the incident, despite allegedly being found in possession of stolen property.
Chad Daniel Haylock, from Greenfields, was arrested Tuesday morning in relation to the late-night smash and grab which left a damage bill of up to $2.5million.
Also arrested was Christopher John Richards from Ocean Reef who also appeared before the local court on Tuesday.
The men are alleged to have broken into a Stewart Street home about 7.50pm Monday evening.
Police said the pair stole a set of keys before fleeing in the victim’s Land Rover.
At 11.20pm the pair is alleged to have driven through bollards at the Target store and caused extensive damage to the entrance.
Mr Richards and Mr Haylock are then alleged to have tried to reverse the vehicle which brought a support structure down and ruptured a fuel line.
A subsequent fire caused further damage to the vehicle and the store.
CCTV footage reportedly shows Mr Richards running into the shop and smashing a display cabinet before taking two iPad minis.
Mr Richards was arrested within 30 minutes of the initial crash while Mr Haylock was apprehended on Tuesday.
Mr Haylock told Magistrate Vivien Edwards he did “not know what this is about”.
He told the court he was woken abruptly by police and had no idea why he was in custody.
Magistrate Edwards called on an investigating detective to provide further information.
During this time the court heard a further series of offences were committed after the ram raid with Mr Haylock likely to face more charges.
Both of the accused applied for bail but the allegations were deemed serious enough by Magistrate Edwards for bail to be refused.
Mr Richards and Mr Haylock were remanded in custody until their next appearance on November 18 when they will face court via videolink.
