MEMBERS of the Spotlite Youth Theatre group are getting their costumes ready and doing last-minute rehearsals before their show next weekend.
Spotlight on Spotlite is a variety show that will showcase the group’s talents, including comedy skits, singing, dancing, playing instruments and dramatic monologues.
The group will perform at Ac-cent on Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9.
This is the first year the young members will be completely in charge of the set design, directing, choreographing and making props and costumes.
“Everyone in the group gets a moment to do something during the performance,” Spotlite coordinator Trick Cole said.
“The kids are loving taking on more responsibility and it gives them a real sense of leadership with this show.
“The aim of Spotlite is using theatre to teach life skills like confidence and coordination while having fun.”
In the past the group used to do weekly workshops a range of areas like breakdancing and stage fighting but after performing with the Mandurah Concert Band last year they wanted to produce their own show.
“We’re so grateful to Bunnings for putting on a prop building workshop for us earlier this year and for the Murray Music and Drama Club for lending us costumes,” Mr Cole said.
Billy Dower provides a safe environment and a range of services for young people aged 11-25 to help them develop social skills and support networks.
