CHANCES of spending an evening with stars like Bruce Willis and Uma Thurman while overlooking the Mandurah skyline have just increased with pre-approval granted for a new outdoor cinema.
Mandurah Rooftop Cinema could be open in time for summer with plans to turn the carpark above Rivers on Sholl Street into an “outdoor movie experience” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights over the warmer months.
The brain child of Hyza Kite Entertainment owner Jay Crossman, the cinema plans to air its first film in early December but needs help choosing what movie would be.
“We haven’t set in stone what movie we want for the first showing yet,” Mr Crossman said. “We’ve had some really good ideas but not the one yet.
“People can put their favourite movies on the website and have the chance to win one of 20 free passes.
“It’s Mandurah’s movie theatre really; we want to show the films they want to see.”
Decked out with artificial grass, bean bags, deck chairs, a 5x3metre HD screen with surround sound and food vans, the cinema will be packed away each night so the carpark can still be used during the day.
Mr Crossman said it would be a family-friendly venue, with a children’s film shown at sunset each night, prior to an adult one.
He said prices would be as competitive as possible and the cinema would also be linked to a charity, which is yet to be decided upon.
