THE Community Food Services charity has been broken into twice in the past six weeks.
They had their building near the Baptist Church broken into on September 4 and again two weeks ago, with the damage bill estimated at $1000.
The Community Food Services is a charity which aims to provide food for those in need.
Co-ordinator Charles van Eck said the service had not had trouble in the past.
“Why would you want to steal from a church; we give things away for free,” he said.
Mr van Eck said after the second break-in he found a light which was used to smash the windows. He said he had been forced to take his computer and printer home with him as he feared the thieves would break-in again.
“If you know what a shoe string budget is, we operate on less,” he said.
“We work on donations here. The first time it was just under $500 for the repairs and the second time it was the same again. They stole a radio, about $350 worth of meats and $90 in cash.
“The call-out fee was also expensive to fix the windows because it was a weekend, but we needed it done.”
He said neighbours said they saw two young people running away.
“We did not have any security measures in place, we never thought we would need to,” he said.
“We are bringing in an alarm system and getting reinforcements on windows.”
Mr van Eck said the break-ins affected business as they now had to re-stock their inventory of food.
“We are supported by schools and get bread from Woolworths on a daily basis, but most of the stuff comes from donations,” he said.
