HALLS Head teenager Travis Green is making ripples in the local music scene with the release of his first EP this weekend.
Taking influences from Mumford and Sons and Matt Corby, Clarity uses the same light feel which isn’t in your face, yet it’s still hard for the young singer to be pigeon-holed solely in the indie pop genre.
Among many other young performers emerging at the moment, the 17-year-old has brought something new to this sub-genre and has obviously spent the time perfecting his sound for the debut release.
“Recording opened me up to a whole new scope of information; knowing what you need to do and why,” he said.
“It can be very tedious going over it time and time again but I wanted to make sure it was right.
“Once it’s done you can’t go back and change it.”
Clarity has almost been a family project, which has been in the making for the whole of Travis’ life.
From taking guitar lessons with his brother at a young age, to getting his parents to take him to gigs both in Mandurah and Perth, the family has been there for the entire journey.
“It’s hard because I’m only 17, there are not a lot of places I can perform by myself,” Travis said.
“Mum and dad have to chaperone me to all the pubs and clubs otherwise I’m not allowed in.”
Travis’ EP launch will be at the Redcliffe on the Murray on Sunday at 3pm.
