“DESPERATE people do desperate things,” according to Pinjarra Family Church senior minister Sheryl Gangell.
Heartless thieves broke into the local church and stole a new television and DVD player on Wednesday; the third time the place of worship has been struck this year.
In previous break-ins, thieves stole food from the community kitchen and a computer; this time it was the electrical goods purchased for the church’s children’s program and training courses.
“There will be a lot of disappointed children and volunteer staff on the weekend as we are unable to run our programs,” Ms Gangell said.
“Years ago people would never break into a church, but now some people can’t help themselves.”
Pinjarra Family Church has more than 100 members who, not only help hand out about 20 food parcels a week, run a regular soup kitchen and youth program.
Ms Gangell said the burglaries would not put an end to those services.
“We give out a lot of food assistance packages during the week so it could have been someone who was looking around then,” she said.
“Pinjarra Family Church provides meals, food and financial assistance to many needy families in the Pinjarra and surrounding areas.
“It is a non profit organisation which is able to provide assistance through the generosity of the church members.
“We are a community church so we are there for the community.”
