CHILDREN who receive a wheelchair from charity group Wheelchairs for Kids will receive hand-made gifts from the community thanks to staff and students at Mandurah Baptist College (MBC).
Knitted knee blankets and toys created in year 11 and 12 textiles classes, with help from MBC teacher Jean Kayne.
“The students learned to knit but we previously had trouble finding someone to give the finished projects too, until we found Wheelchairs for Kids,” Mrs Kayne said.
“This way the students can learn a new skill and someone can benefit from it.
“The kids like knowing they’re making something special for other children.”
The group also donated to Operation Christmas Child, which brings gifts to children in need throughout Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.
MBC year 12 student Lillee Johnston will take some of the blankets to Cambodia later this year on a volunteer trip.
