SHIRLEY Roberts knows Peel Health Campus’ oncology department better than most.
Diagnosed with a rare lymphoma, Mrs Roberts has been in and out of the local hospital since 1996.
While she said the hospital staff are “the best in the world”, she would find herself getting bored while receiving her treatments.
“Sometimes you would be here all day and if anyone knows about having chemotherapy, it’s mind destroying,” she said.
“I thought at least if there was something there for people not to be so bored it would be better not only for the patients but easier on the staff as well.”
Mrs Roberts and her husband Reg donated eight televisions to the oncology ward to entertain the patients.
Peel Health Campus then had the televisions installed to contribute to the Roberts’ donation.
“There was nothing there to entertain people; the books have been there as long as I have and there are no newspapers,” she said.
“People aren’t prepared to be in here and they do get bored.
“Some people sleep but I know I could never sleep here.
“I could never calm myself enough to sleep.
“At least they have the televisions now.”
