SECRET Harbour resident Sue Yuill has been recognised for raising more than $20,000 for SIDS and Kids Western Australia.
After losing her baby four years ago to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), Ms Yuill took part in Red Nose Day fundraising activities, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ and other initiatives to raise the funds.
She was named Coles Espress Community Hero for WA and received $10,000 to give to a charity of her choice.
Ms Yuill, who works at Coles Express Singleton also received $1000 and 40 hours of work time to use continuing to help SIDS and Kids WA when she was named a regional winner.
The award is part of a national campaign by Coles to honour unsung heroes in the community.
“I’m so honoured to be named Coles Express Community Hero for the state and have the opportunity to raise more awareness about SIDS and Kids WA,” Ms Yuill said.
“I am so grateful for SIDS and Kids WA for being there when I needed them.
“For me it’s about helping this amazing organisation that people need to fund because they do a great job.”
SIDS and Kids WA chief executive officer Gerry Walsh said Ms Yuill was an incredible person and he was grateful for her support.
“We’re so dependant on funding through community support and corporate support,” he said.
“Many people know that we provide help and education about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, we also provide support for people who have lost a baby due to miscarriage or stillbirth.
“Sue has been a support for people in the Mandurah community who have lost a child and she then refers them to us and trained counsellors.”
