MANDURAH sailors Kate Lathouras and Jessica Eastwell have had to brave a typhoon while competing in the 2014 Women’s International Match Racing Series in Busan, Korea last week.
Racing was postponed on Monday due to a nearby super typhoon, Vongfong with the event coming to a close on Thursday.
The WIM Series is a professional sailing circuit for the world’s leading women match racing sailors.
The Australian team, under the guidance of skipper Katie Spithill, made it through the knock-out round of the competition to face England in the final.
The first team to win three races would take out the $100,000US prize.
Australia led two races to one before England bounced back to win the next race to tie it up.
In the final race the Australians battled hard but it was not to be with England claiming the title.
It was a great result for the Australians with Spithill only returning to racing to in Busan after maternity leave.
Last year the Australia team finished third.
