MANDURAH BMX Club had 13 riders compete at the State BMX Titles over the weekend at the Southside BMX Club in Bull Creek.
Ben O’Loughlin, unbeaten in his four qualifying races, headed into the 13 boys final with high expectation and he did not disappoint.
O’Loughlin came out on top against a field which included the Australian number five ranked racer to be crowned the number one ranked Western Australian
Blade Cherubino impressed in the 11 boys against 23 riders to finish second in the final.
His brother Steele placed fifth in the final on the eight boys; there were 35 riders in his class.
O’Loughlin and the Cherubino brothers will compete against the best in the country at the national titles in Brisbane next May.
Hayley Hughes placed second in the 12 girls final.
Ruby Mackenzie placed sixth in the final of the 11 girls with Tuleah O’Loughlin finishing in seventh.
Michelle Newport finished sixth in the final of the over 16s women’s event.
Newport impressed in her heats finishing in second place three times.
“I am totally stoked with my placing; it was a hard final in wet and windy conditions,” she said.
Jack Newman (eight boys), Axel West (nine boys) and Jarod Little (14 boys) all made the semi-finals but narrowly missed out on the final.
Young Mandurah sprocket riders Rhys Newman, Joseph Moore and Brennan Newport were competitive.
