A MANDURAH teenager has returned home from her trip to California after winning an Alcoa Foundation scholarship.
Frederick Irwin Anglican School student Abbey Hull returned from the Yosemite National Park an inspired environmentalist after attending the NatureBridge Alcoa Scholars program last month.
“We learnt how to protect nature just by changing little things and being more careful in our actions,” Abbey said.
“I’m going to apply what I discovered at my Eco Warriors Program which operates in the Port Bouvard Surf Life Saving Club area.”
The 10-day event was the first time Alcoa offered the scholarship, with Abbey and fellow scholar Troy Kelly the only Australians selected from 160 applicants across 18 countries.
Abbey said she enjoyed the opportunity to share her life and culture with participants from across the world.
“It was an eye-opening experience to see a different part of our planet and share it with new people from all around the globe,” she said.
“My goal now is to pass on the passion and knowledge I gained from the Alcoa Scholars’ journey to Yosemite, and celebrate our motto: Live, Learn and Pass It On.”
