IF IT’S possible to see the silver lining in the Fritz family's situation, it would be the community support.
After three-year-old Shanay was diagnosed with an anaplastic astrocytoma, a high-grade glioma in her spine, the community banded together with the family.
Shanay’s rare form of cancer, usually seen in 70- to 80-year-old women, means she is the only person in Australia with the disease and the only two-year-old currently diagnosed in the world.
A recent MRI scan showed no change on the tumour after chemotherapy which means Shanay may need surgery in the near future.
“There is a saying, when you cry, you cry alone and when you laugh, everyone laughs with you but this is not the case,” Shanay's mum Carin said.
“We’re truly touched by the help the community has given.”
The community has organised a charity golf day to raise money for the Fritz family later this month.
With prizes on offer, including a trip to the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix from f1grandprixtours.com.au the golf day committee is hoping raise as much money as possible for the Fritz family.
“As a community we stand together and want to help out where we can,” golf day committee member Werner Kruger said.
“It’s always difficult when something like this happens.
“We’re each other’s family and when something happens we all stand together.”
Mr Kruger, who came up with the idea of hosting a golf day, said everyone had been very generous so far.
With more than 70 people already taking part in the event, there are still up to 60 spots available.
Sponsorship is also available for businesses with the opportunity for banners on the green and advertisements on the tables at the function.
The Shanay Fritz Charity Golf Day will be on October 10 from 10.30am for a 11.30am tee-off at The Cut Golf Club.
