SOURCING enough stock to fill their shelves is an ongoing battle for Mandurah Foodbank.
While they have generous donations from individuals in the community, branch manager Carline Cox said Mandurah Foodbank gets little supplies from companies.
“It’s an always thing; it’s normal that we are desperate,” she said.
“Locally we get very little from companies.
“Egg farmers and even fruit and vegetables, that sort of thing, are always in need.
“It’s not just about feeding poor people it’s about not wasting food.
“And I don’t know if [businesses] are aware but there are tax benefits in it for them.
“I’d kill to find an egg farmer.
“I had a good egg lady in Furnissdale who gave us eggs but 30 or 40 kilograms of eggs doesn’t go very far.”
Ms Cox said when it came to meat, they were even able to take live stock as they had an agreement with Dardanup Butcheries to process it for Foodbank.
