A SOUTH Yunderup cake decorator has taken out one of the top awards at the IGA Perth Royal Show for the second year running.
Kay Sandy gained the most points in the decorated cakes open section and got the highest amount of points in the open section.
She entered four cakes this year and three took out prizes, including one that resembled a crows nest fern, to make it the fifth time she’s won the master’s competition.
“It was really hard work, the hardest bit involved finding a nice bark pattern on a tree and incorporating it into the cake,” she said.
“It’s nice that people appreciate your work.
“I just try to make something different every year.”
Last year her traditional Asian tower cake was awarded Most Outstanding Wedding Cake in the decorated cakes section.
In 2012 she entered a miniature Eiffel Tower made entirely of icing and was covered in tiny icing flowers.
Mrs Sandy previously said she was known as the ‘flower lady’ because she never created a cake without a flower on it somewhere.
