A drunk driver who ran a red light, crashed into another vehicle and injured the driver says she “wasn’t paying attention” at the time of the accident.
Belinda Maree Day pleaded guilty in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Friday to three charges stemming from the August 29 crash at the intersection of Pinjarra Road and Anstruther Road.
The court heard Ms Day blew 0.101grams at the scene after she ran a red light and collided with the driver’s side door of the victim who had a green light at the time of the accident.
The victim was later transported to Peel Health Campus for treatment to injuries sustained in the crash.
Counsel for Ms Day disputed the fact she drove away from the scene despite being found 500 metres from the accident site in the Blockbuster carpark.
Ms Day also argued it was a driver behind her that beeped so she assumed she could go through the intersection.
Counsel for Ms Day conceded her client “panicked” due to her level of intoxication.
The 28-year-old was fined $1000 plus court costs and banned from driving for eight months.
