PINJARRA’S Milan Mirkovic and Alex Sheppard have qualified for the metal craft section at the IGA Perth Royal Show.
Mr Mirkovic and Mr Sheppard, who have entered the competition since it began a few years ago, worked together on their entries and are always looking for something different to create for the competition.
One of Mr Mirkovic’s entries has an Anzac theme in aid of the upcoming 100th anniversary.
“Basically it’s created from different pictures, such as knitting designs and modified and then laid them over the top of each other,” he said.
“I just take bits and pieces out and use whatever looks good.”
While the duo have worked together on the three entries, the competition only allows one entrant per person so therefore Mr Mirkovic and Mr Sheppard both have an entry in the Creative Craft competition and Mr Sheppard has entered a piece in the Masters section.
The Masters category is for entrants who have won in other sections previously and this year will include Mr Sheppard’s metal rooster.
“I am in with the big shots this year,” he said.
Mr Sheppard has been doing metal work since he was about 12 years old.
“I guess I was following in my father’s footsteps,” the 72-year-old said.
“Mostly I just taught myself.”
Both metal craftsmen will find out the results of the competition on the first day of the show.
The IGA Perth Royal Show runs from September 27 to October 4.
