MATT Rogers is making plans for a bright future.
As well as founding planning group Perth Urbanists and joining the board of local organisation Community Solutions Inc, the 22-year-old Dawesville man has been nominated for the 2014 PIanning Institute of Australia Awards for Planning Excellence, in the Outstanding Achievement by a Young Planner category.
Mr Rogers, who is in the final year of his Urban and Regional Planning degree at Curtin University was nominated by his employer Hassell, an international design practice based in Perth.
“I didn’t expect to be nominated,” he said.
“It’s a bit humbling to be recognised for the work you’ve been doing.”
Mr Rogers said he chose a career in planning because he wanted to help shape communities.
“I love the effect you can have on developing a community,” he said.
The awards recognise the excellence, innovation and achievement of local planners.
All state winners are automatically entered into the National Awards for Planning Excellence.
Community Solutions chief executive Rhys Williams said the young planner was an asset to the Community Solutions board.
“Matthew's vast knowledge and experience in urban planning, combined with his passion and intuition for developing communities makes him a real asset to the Community Solutions board of directors, and Mandurah as whole,” he said.
“We congratulate him on the nomination for this significant award.”
