BABY Loni Blossom was only five months old when she passed away from a congenital heart defect and a Mandurah group are on a mission to honour her memory.
A morning tea fundraiser for HeartKids Western Australia will be held on Saturday, September 27 at Church of the Way in Coodanup and all proceeds will be donated in Loni’s honour.
The morning tea will include tea, coffee, home-made cakes, HeartKids merchandise for sale, a big raffle and free children’s activities including face painting.
“Six babies are born every day in Australia with a broken heart and there is no known cure,” organiser Jessica Munn said.
“As little as $5 can supply test strips for a child for a week to help them monitor their medication levels from home instead of staying in hospital.
“HeartKids WA also help keep parents close to their children by helping with accommodation or transport costs."
Ms Munn said she was impressed by the support from local businesses and members of the community.
“We’ve got more than $650 worth of prizes to raffle off including a dolphin cruise, a dinner for two at Silver Sands Tavern and gift baskets with things from Jim Kidd Sports and Crystal Surf and Skate,” she said.
“I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of support from people who know nothing of this cause.
“It makes me proud to live in an area where people band together for families who really need it.
“The church have also been a big help – their generosity and support is the reason this can go ahead.”
Church of the Way is at 58 Steerforth Drive, Coodanup and the morning tea will run from 10am-noon.
