A woman attacked outside a bottle shop near a popular Esperance nightclub has undergone emergency surgery at Royal Perth Hospital.

The 31-year-old woman was standing with a 34-year-old female friend waiting for a taxi outside the Pier Hotel bottle shop, at the corner of Andrews Street and The Esplanade, about 1.10am on Sunday, police spokeswoman Susan Usher said.

A argument with two men turned physical and the women were attacked by the men, who then took off.

The two women were taken to Esperance District Hospital and the 31-year-old woman, who sustained a serious arm injury, was flown to Royal Perth Hospital for surgery.
