HALLS Head Lightning midfielder Tim Bruce said he was ‘over the moon’ to be the joint winner of the Ross Elliott Medal as the best player in the Peel Football League.
“It was pretty unexpected,” he said
“It showed how tight the comp was this year.
“I had a slight suspicion I might do ok, a few guys at the club said if I played a few good games at the end of the year I might be a chance, but you never know how the umpires will vote.
Bruce tied the count with Pinjarra ruckman Tom Harper with the pair finishing on 16 votes ahead of Waroona trio Ben Wright, Courtney Lakay and Jayden Caratti.
“I was runner up last year in the Upper Great Southern league playing for Boddington but had never won an award like this before.”
Bruce played for two season in the Upper Great Swan League after previously playing WAFL football for both Perth and East Fremantle.
Bruce said he wanted the opportunity to play in a strong league this season so decided to make the move to Halls Head.
“It’s been good,” he said.
“It was a challenge not knowing anyone so I was left in the loop a bit trying to get to know everyone but they were all very welcoming.”
Bruce said his football career would continue in the Peel Football League next season.
“I’ll definitely be here until we [Halls Head] get the flag.”
