SAFETY Bay Senior High School students will take to the stage at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre for their Cheer-Dance Spectacular.
More than 130 students from years eight to 12 will take part in a wide range of dance and cheer genres like jazz, hip hop, contemporary, tap, ballet and musical theatre.
Safety Bay Cheer-Dance specialist program coordinator and arts coordinator Melissa Wiltshire said she event allowed students to see the results of this year’s hard work.
”It’s great for the kids to be on a professional stage under lights and with sound – they’re really excited,” she said.
The school’s top level three cheerleading team The Warriors recently went to Queensland for a competition and took out a host of awards.
“The team competed in a number of categories and came first in secondary jazz, second place in secondary pom – which involves pom poms – and they came third overall out of six teams,” Ms Wiltshire said.
“The girls were competing against professional clubs because there were no school teams in the level three cheer section – it was great to see a school club compete at that level.”
Three duos from the group also competed and students came second and third place in the jazz category and a pair performing a hip hop routine came second.
Cheer-Dance started at Safety Bay in 2012 and this will be the first year the group will have students from a Certificate II dance course performing.
The show will be on Friday, September 12, tickets are $20 and to book search for Safety Bay at manpac.com.au
