WHEN the Mandurah Surf Life Saving Club (MSLSC) moved to its new premises last year, its membership numbers quadrupled to more than 400.
Now the club has been given $11,000 worth of new equipment to help provide its members with rescue and first aid training.
Raised through the Mirvac Meadow Springs Open Air Cinema, the club has been able to purchase an inflatable rescue boat, safety helmets and CPR mannequins among other equipment.
MSLSC president Elaine Daniels said the new equipment would be used for the training and preparation of lifeguards.
"The rotary [clubs of Mandurah] said Mirvac were looking for a charity to receive the movie money," she said.
“I put forward a proposal that said we need to train more lifesavers.
"We had some youth members helping out on the night too, selling tickets and doing the sausage sizzle.
“We’ve now got the money to buy equipment we need to be able to provide life saving training.”
Ms Daniels said the club had administered first aid to 17 people and prevented 166 incidents during the last patrol.
Mirvac WA development director of masterplanned communities Kim Lawrance said Mirvac was committed to building strong and engaged communities.
“We look forward to continuing our activities at Meadow Springs to help deliver even more positive outcomes for the Mandurah community,” he said.
The MSLSC will hold a registration day at its Eros Reserve base on September 21 from 9am-noon.
