SURF’S up for Mandurah Catholic College (MCC) students, who took out multiple wins as part of the Western Australian Schools Surfing Titles competition’s state finals.
The team also made Peel region history by winning seven out of eight titles at the regional level.
In the regional round the team came first in the senior boys’ surfing and bodyboarding, the senior girls’ surfing and bodyboarding, the junior girls’ surfing and bodyboarding and the junior boys’ bodyboarding sections.
Year nine and 10 students who are already capable surfers and bodyboarders are able to take on surf science as a subject at MCC.
The school has built its reputation over several years, with the list of former squad members including world-touring bodyboarder Davis Blackwell, who is currently ranked fourth in the Australian Bodyboarding Association Pro Tour.
Surfer Harry McPherson also used to be in the squad and his younger siblings, twins April and Maiko are currently surfing for MCC.
MCC director of sports Nicholas Jenkins is the squad’s coach and is also adept at surfing, as he was named among the State’s top three longboard surfers for his age group after he competed in last year’s Australian Longboard Titles.
